TALAMPAYA CANYON: General Information
Temperature range and rainfall
A great temperature range predominates both during summer and winter. Marked temperature swings are frequent during the day, and night temperatures are considerably different from daytime ones.
Summers are warm, with maximum temperatures reaching 38° C (wind chill temperature) in the sun, while minimum temperatures can decrease to 0° C in winter, or even reach below zero extremes on some occasions. The coldest months are June through September.
This is a windy area, all year round. Northwest, west and southeast winds are very frequent, while the “Zonda” wind (the regional name given to a very hot, and dry wind coming from the north) is one of the fiercest. Also characteristic of the area is the dry climate, except during the summer, when most rainfall occurs. The average annual precipitation for Talampaya ranges from 150 to 170 mms.
